By Peter Jalowiczor

Special guests from England were the centre of attraction of the Trojwies Millers’ 10th year celebrations, and also part of the “Dni Istebnej” (The Istebna Festival), which took place during July 15-16 2006.

Arriving in Istebna were; Dino Maccio – vice-chairman of the English club, Rotherham United FC, Roger Stone – Leader of Rotherham Council (pop. 250,000), Chris Saxon – in the role of Press Secretary for the English media and also Board Member of Rotherham United Supporters’ Trust, an organisation, which is in essence a parallel Board to the English club and Malcolm Stone – Roger’s brother.  Surely such a visit does not happen every day in Poland!

Our guests took part in a special session of the Council, participating in all parts of the program of the events – sports events as well as artistic events and visited the most beautiful parts of Trojwies.  They noted the beauty of our region and the enjoyed the events in the Amphitheatre next to the “ski-jump” ground citing the “family atmosphere” and “friendly people”.  The matches were held in high regard Saturday as well as Sunday, despite the fact that these gentlemen are diplomats, who have been to many places in the world, lets hope that their opinions are not only just pure courtesy.

It’s worth noting that, contacts with England are not ending on this note and it is almost certain that in the near future the most talented footballers from our region shall be going over to Rotherham for trials.  Dino Maccio brought over, as a gift for KP Trojwies, two sets of original strip, in which the professional team from Rotherham play in.  The celebrations couldn’t be without the founder and the First Chairman of the KP Trojwies Millers – Peter Jalowiczor, who also came over for the events from England, where he currently lives.  Peter is also a Board Member of Rotherham United Supporters Trust.  The itinerary of events was wide-ranging and included the special session of the council, followed by a presentation of awards for club officials and players, presented by the FA.  They were received by; Peter Jalowiczor and Jerzy Jaworski, Boleslaw Bury, Janusz Waszut (players) followed by the late Stanislaw Idziniak and Tadeusz Galej (who were club officials).

Undoubtedly the biggest sports attraction was Saturday’s jubilee match in which Ruch Chorzow was the visiting side. The event was played at a very good standard of football in front of a decent crowd and delivered a lot of excitement, not much was needed and a shock would have been on the cards as in the second half our players, who were very ambitious, took the lead at 3:2. It was the visitors, which had earlier taken the lead but such a result nonetheless is a big success for our club and lets hope that there will be more of the same in the coming league season.
